Welcome to our September newsletter!
Today sees a return to school for many and we remember especially those starting new schools, as well as our hard-working teachers. We hope you were all able to enjoy the summer holidays and a change in routine.
One of the highlights of August was the Nutley Lane Street Party, organised by residents. The church was delighted to lend our tables and chairs from the hall to such a good cause, and the day was hot and sunny. A small portion of Nutley Lane was closed to traffic and it was great to see local children making the most of the opportunity to play in the street, although the recent heavy rain has now washed away the chalk drawings and hopscotch. It was a terrific opportunity for neighbours to get together and I greatly enjoyed meeting some new faces. Thanks to all who worked so hard to make it happen.
A big thank you to Helen Jerome, who used some of her spare time in August to give our church noticeboard a makeover. Do pop in the church to admire her handiwork and read through some favourite quotes from the Bible. Later in the year we’ll be inviting you to suggest your own favourite Biblical quotes to go on the board.
Thanks also go to Sandra and Sue, who take such good care of the flower beds in front of the church. Throughout the heatwaves and the drought, they have been turning up faithfully in the early morning, to ensure the beds and flowers are watered and don’t die of thirst – no mean feat given the extraordinary summer we’ve had!
As we move into the Autumn we are celebrating the Season of Creation throughout September, culminating in our Harvest Festival at 10am on Sunday 4th October. Once again we’ll be collecting donations of tinned/dried food and groceries for Redhill Food Bank.
Finally, and annoyingly, I’ve had some problems with my phone and have had to change numbers.
